A family business since 1965, Hannington Gilbert & Co are an established electrical contractors serving clients in Battle, Bexhill, Hastings, Robertsbridge, and Rye, and we are proud to serve the local area for all their electrical contractor needs.
We have a reputation among our clients in East Sussex for the skill, professionalism, and reliability with which we complete every job. This reputation comes largely from the recommendations that thousands of our domestic, commercial and industrial satisfied customers have made to their friends, families, and work colleagues. So if you are looking for an ‘Electrician Near Me’ our team of experienced electricians can help.
We have worked with thousands of happy customers over the years, covering domestic houses, commercial premises and industrial clients and have been please to carry out work in recent years for Hastings Borough Council, Rother District Council, Hastings Town Centre management, T Bourne and Sons of Rye, and in conjunction with George Stone Ltd, work at various properties for the National Trust, and also for many private customers.
Please see below a selection of a few of our past projects.
We’ve looked after St Marys church in Rye for many years, in 2006 we re-wired much of the churches lighting and installed a decorative lighting scheme including a MODE lighting dimmer pack, allowing the church to create several ‘scenes,’ whereby different groups of lights can be brought on at different intensities for different events or to create a particular mood.
In 2015 we replaced the churches aging and in some cases damaged external floodlighting with new polycarbonate fittings which should better withstand adverse weather and the salt air from the sea.
Other work includes new distribution boards, ongoing reactive and preventative maintenance, 5 yearly condition reports and regular PAT testing.
The National Trust are one of our longest running clients and we’ve worked in most of the local properties over the years, including many projects at Bodium Castle. In 2014 we had an emergency call to the Castle, the RCD for the main electrical supply to the castle had tripped! We traced the fault to water penetrating the insulation of the cable and causing a short, after making a temporary repair we discussed the best way to move forward. The National Trust commissioned us to install a new, submarine grade cable from the mains position to the distribution board in the castle, this involved removing the old cable, pulling the new cable through a long duct with a tractor and feeding the new cable through the moat with the help of a diver from Eastbourne diving club.
In 2011 we were commissioned by the owners of a business park in Battle to carry out the electrical installation work in a new workshop for a restorer of classic racing cars. The project involved stripping out the previous installation (the building had previously been a joinery workshop) and installing a complete new installation, including supplies for a number of ramps, specialist workshops, offices and all the associated amenities.
Work included a complete rewire, sockets, lighting, emergency lighting, 3 phase power for ramps and machines and the installation of CAT6 data cabling throughout.
We are pleased to continue to carry out alterations and maintenance work for the company.
A new building in the grounds of the clients holiday home, to be used as an outside office space or summer house, designed by RDP Architects and constructed by Conqueror Construction.
Set amongst woodland the building is a timber frame construction with bespoke timber and steel cladding, consisting of an open plan living space with mezzanine office area, kitchenette and guest bedroom complete with en suite shower room, externally there is a cantilever balcony at the front and the side with canopy above. The large south east facing window provides views all the way to Fance on a clear day.
The project consisted of a full new installation, the main incoming supply to the house was upgraded to three phase through UK Power Networks in order to provide a suitable power supply to the summer house. A new 60 meter steel wire armoured submain cable from new switchgear at the main house was installed by us into a trench dug by the builders as part of the preliminary groundworks.
The installation in the summer house consists of power an lighting throughout, including internal LED downlights to the bedroom, office and en suite and external downlights in the canopy over the balconies, finished with a black bezel to match the surrounding timber. LED 'spike lights' have also been installed along the path that leads up to the summer house. Water heating is provided by an electric boiler and space heating by a bespoke smart electric underfloor heating system complete with remote mobile app operation.
The building has a data points throughout hard-wired back to the broadband router at the main house for maximum reliability.
